Indian states collect revenue through this source ,however , Uttar Pradesh , Uttaranchal, Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh are the only exceptions and have not levied professional tax. Municipal bodies in Goa , Haryana, Himachal Pradesh , Kerala , Rajasthan, Bihar, Punjab and Tamil Nadu are empowered their to collect professional tax while Jammu & Kashmir , Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh impose this tax themselves.
The original ceiling on the professional tax, as prescribed in the Constitution passed by the Constituent Assembly, was Rs 250 a year. It was raised to Rs 2,500 a year in 1988 and since then both the 11th and 12th Finance Commission have called for its upward revision.Article 276 of the Constitution empowers the state to levy the tax in respect of profession, trade, calling and employment, but it also fixes the ceiling that can be amended only through the Constitutional amendment by Parliament.

In Andhra Pradesh , the professional tax as per GOMs No: 21 dated 07.01.2008S deducted as under
Salary & Wages in Rs. Tax per month in Rs.Up to 5,000 Nil
6001 to 10000 Rs 80/-
10001 to 15000 Rs 100/-
15001 to 20000 Rs 150/-
Above 20000 200/-
Can you deposit tax any any other state?
No, since the professional tax is state subject, Authorities of other states can not collect professional tax on behalf of Andhra Pradesh. It must be deposited with designated authorities of Andhra Pradesh only.
