The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued a instruction to reopen a tax assessment case of former director general (vigilance) & chief vigilance officer, CBDT, PK Mishra. The case is being re-opened on the basis of a complaint filed by additional commissioner SK Srivastava. Srivastava has alleged that PK Misra has concealed income to the tune of Rs 20 crore in his returns for the fiscal year 2004-05 and hence guilty of tax evasion.
The Ex-CBDT honcho, Misra had opted for voluntary retirement from his posts as Director General (Vigilance) & Chief Vigilance officer, CBDT in 2007 with a disclosed annual income of Rs 4.11 lakh. He is alleged to have constructed super deluxe apartments in Bhubaneshwar and own several benami properties in NCR and abroad.
The notice issued to Misra coincides with the ‘Finance Minister’s diktat to go tough against willful tax evaders and black money hoarders.’
