Just a view days ago , it was reported that CBI arrested two tax officers on bribery charges . Now , the news has come that the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested the Mrs Poonam Rai , 2007 IRS , deputy commissioner of Income Tax (I-T) department and her husband, for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs.10 lakh from a builder who is also a BJP member . Incidently , the husband of Ms Rai , Sri Ganesh Malviya is a convener in the BJP’s election cell.
The CBI conducted the raid on Friday night and nabbed two other persons, including a chartered accountant. The arrested persons were produced in a court here on Saturday. “We have arrested Poonam Rai, Ganesh Malviya, Pritam Chotwani and Sanjay Raut in the case, and they were produced in the court today,” CBI Bhopal office incharge Bhartendu Sharma said.
It is alleged that the builder R. S. Bhadoria – who owns Ramayan Builders and Developers and is also the convener of state BJP’s cultural cell – had lodged a complaint with the CBI in New Delhi alleging that his IT records were clean, yet the official was harassing him and demanding a bribe of Rs.25 lakh.The builder approached the CBI and reportedly said that Poonam was threatening him with penalty and very high demand.
CBI in Delhi referred the matter to Bhopal CBI which laid the trap to nab Poonam and Ganesh.
CBI sleuths nabbed the IRS officer, her husband, after Rs.10 lakh – the first installment of the bribe – was sent to chartered accountant Pritam’s office in MP Nagar.The CBI arrested the CA and his assistant . Ganesh’s employee Sanjay Raut was also arrested when he reached the office to collect the money.When Sanjay handed over the money to Ganesh, the CBI team arrested him, sources said. At that time, Ganesh was at home along with the couple’s four-month-old baby and a servant, while Poonam was still at her office. Another CBI team soon reached the Income Tax office located at Maida Mill area and began interrogating her.
